Frequently asked questions

About the coordinated pathway

What is the DeGroote + SPJIMR Coordinated Pathway?

The DeGroote + SPJIMR Coordinated Pathway combines SPJIMR’s six-month Global Management Programme (GMP) in Mumbai with DeGroote’s Master of Finance (MFin) in Canada.

You begin your studies at SPJIMR in the Finance and Fintech track, building a foundation in management, finance, fintech and related business disciplines. You then continue to DeGroote in January to complete the advanced portion of the MFin.

The coordinated pathway is designed so that your SPJIMR finance coursework prepares you to enter the MFin at Term 2, allowing you to complete the DeGroote portion in approximately 12 months.

What does “coordinated pathway” mean?

The coordinated pathway connects two graduate-level academic experiences into a structured progression between SPJIMR and DeGroote.

Rather than applying to and completing two unrelated programs, students enter the pathway through SPJIMR, complete the GMP with a Finance and Fintech focus, and then continue into the DeGroote MFin.

The institutions coordinate the pathway and recognize relevant prior coursework so students can enter the MFin at Term 2.

Is this an accelerated Master of Finance?

The pathway allows you to complete the DeGroote MFin in approximately 12 months because you enter the program at Term 2.

However, the overall pathway includes six months of study at SPJIMR before you begin your MFin. For that reason, the program is best understood as a coordinated pathway with an accelerated MFin component, rather than simply a shortened standalone MFin.

Why was this pathway created?

The pathway brings together SPJIMR’s broad management and finance education with DeGroote’s advanced graduate finance curriculum.

It is designed for students who want to develop both the broader business perspective needed to understand organizational decisions and the technical finance expertise needed to analyze complex financial problems.

Program structure and timeline

How long does the full pathway take?

The academic pathway runs from June through December of the following year, including a scheduled four-month break between the two MFin terms.

The sequence is:

June–December: SPJIMR Global Management Programme
January–April: DeGroote MFin Term 2
May–August: Scheduled break
September–December: DeGroote MFin Term 3

The DeGroote MFin component takes approximately 12 months from January to December, including the scheduled break.

How long is the SPJIMR portion?

The Global Management Programme is approximately six months.

Students complete the GMP before beginning the DeGroote MFin in January.

How long is the DeGroote portion?

Pathway students complete approximately 12 months of the MFin pathway, including:

  • Four months of coursework from January to April
  • A four-month scheduled break from May to August
  • Four months of coursework from September to December

Why do pathway students start the MFin in January?

Pathway students complete relevant management, finance and fintech coursework through SPJIMR before beginning at DeGroote.

The coordinated curriculum is designed to provide the foundation needed to enter the MFin at Term 2 and progress directly into advanced finance coursework.

How does this compare with the standalone MFin?

The standalone MFin follows its regular program structure and start date.

The coordinated pathway adds the SPJIMR GMP before students enter DeGroote’s MFin in January. Pathway students then complete the MFin in approximately 12 months and earn an additional GMP Certificate from SPJIMR.
